Ulhas Vinayak Parlikar has over 36 years of experience in various segments of business such as R&D, Technology Development & Scale up, Project design and engineering, Project Management, Business Development, Project Consultancy, Marketing, Strategic Planning, Technology Collaboration, Technology Assimilation, Negotiation and Management of Contracts, etc.
During his association with Hindustan Unilever Ltd, National Peroxide Ltd & ACC Limited, he led several successful business initiatives. He implemented more than 40 small & big CAPEX projects during his tenure in these organizations. He negotiated & finalized several technology collaboration agreements with different global companies as a part of the ACC’s aspiration in diversifying into new business areas. He successfully led the business development initiative of ACC for extending consultancy services to overseas clients that facilitated setting up of > 24,000 TPD of cement manufacturing capacity in Africa and Gulf region.
He led the co-processing initiative in the country and developed it as a large and successful business by employing blue ocean strategy. Considering the importance of the enabling policy framework for sustainably managing wastes, Ulhas Parlikar led the policy advocacy initiative in the country through several forums. These forums included stakeholders representing government, waste generators, NGOs & activists, cement industries and academicians and successfully got co-processing technology recognised as a preferred technology for waste management in the Indian Policy Framework.
Considering his experience and knowledge in the area of pre-processing and co-processing of wastes, he has been invited by Government of India as an expert member on several committees constituted by it including those that were constituted to draft the Waste Management Rules notified in 2016. He has also been member of the committees constituted for drafting several guidelines published by CPCB, MoEFCC & MoUHA in respect of sustainable management of wastes. He was nominated as the Chairman of the expert advisory committee constituted by World Resources Forum to work out a solution for the sustainable management of BFR plastics from E-wastes under SRI initiative of the United Nations.
He has authored a full chapter on AFR co-processing in the “Low carbon technology road map for the Indian Cement Industry” published by International Energy Association (IEA) and World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD); He has published more than 30 papers in reputed international / national journals and conferences with eminent scientists and authorities as the co-authors. He is invited by several forums to speak and also moderate panel discussions on the subject of Wastes management, Circular Economy, Plastics Management, Co-processing, etc.
