Services

Waste Management

Ulhas Parlikar provides services to achieve safe, sustainable and gainful management of different kinds of wastes from Industrial, Municipal and agricultural sources to move towards zero landfill option. These services include:

Waste Assessment and advisory on its sustainable management; Preparation of Strategic Business plans, Feasibility studies and DPRs; Design and implementation support in implementing Waste Management Projects; Process & Compliance Audits for smooth operation

Circular Economy

The sound knowledge of the subjects of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and experience gained while implementing several R&D projects and leading the initiative of increasing waste utilisation in the Indian Cement Industry through CII, Ulhas Parlikar has developed substantial understanding on various manufacturing processes that help him facilitate developing by-product synergy between the generators and consumers of wastes. Ulhas Parlikar is extending consultancy services based on this capability to conceptualise “By-product” synergy for gainful utilisation of wastes generated by the manufacturing companies. This helps manufacturing industries to avoid hassles of generation and management of wastes. This feat not only facilitates zero waste approach but also provides opportunity to have a commercially attractive opportunity to contribute to the cause of resource efficiency and circular economy. To promote implementation of large scale by-product synergy in India, he has co-founded an initiative to facilitate industrial symbiosis and elimination of waste.

Policy Advocacy

The environmental impacts of every manufacturing activity tends to get complex with time and increasing scales of operation. The technology available to deal with these impacts also keeps improving / changing parallelly. Proactive approach desires that these impacts and technological advancements are understood well before hand and be prepared to facilitate implementation of appropriate policy frameworks that are technologically and commercially workable and there is complete alignment of all stakeholders on the same. This process requires implementation of stakeholder alignment on the intended policy interventions. This alignment process involves awareness generation of the stakeholders through properly designed dialogues and messages. Ulhas Parlikar has developed a scientific process of policy advocacy for implementing the desired level of stakeholder alignment towards the intended policy changes. He has successfully implemented it for achieving recognition of the cement kiln co-processing as a preferred option for sustainable management of different kinds of hazardous and non-hazardouos wastes through co-processing in cement kilns in the Indian waste management policy Framework notified by the Government of India in 2016. Hence, we devise, propose and implement Strategic Plans for advocating appropriate solutions for implementing relevant policy reforms

Converting wastes into AFRs through pre-processing

Cement industry has great deal of capability in utilising large quantum of wastes as resources. However, to tap this potential there is need to convert wastes into Alternative Fuels and Raw materials (AFRs) through pre-processing them into a homogenous mix having desired chemical and physical characteristics. The larger is the quantum of wastes to be utilised, better is the requirement of the quality of the pre-processed AFRs. Ulhas Parlikar was responsible for conceptualisation, design and implementing world class pre-processing facilities at ACC which are operating smoothly and delivering the desired AFR quality standards in an economically attractive manner. With the experience of setting up such pre-processing facilities, Ulhas Parlikar is extending consultancy services to agencies interested in setting up occupationally safe, environmentally compliant and economically viable pre-processing facilities to convert hazardous and non-hazardous wastes from industrial , municipal and agricultural sources into AFRs for co-processing them in the cement kilns.

Co-processing of AFRs in cement kilns

Ulhas Parlikar has vast experience in implementing co-processing of large quantum of AFRs in the cement kilns. This success required dealing with various interventions such as organisation development, development of techno-commercial skills of the operating personnel, strategic planning, Alignment of the internal and external stakeholders, managing external affairs, community engagement, liaison, policy advocacy, undertaking co-processing trials of waste materials having simple to very complex chemical characteristics, etc. He was also associated with various government and private initiatives in facilitating development of a robust policy framework in favour of co-processing. With this back ground Ulhas Parlikar extends support in implementation of co-processing facilities that are occupationally safe, environmentally compliant and economically viable. He also extends support in achieving smooth and gainful co-processing of complex materials that bring issues in the cement kiln process.
